The integrated broadband variable gain amplifier product series introduced by Texas Instruments (TI). The unique architecture of the new device can provide designers with highly flexible combinations of bandwidth, gain, and analog input voltage to meet the design requirements of various applications, including differential line receivers and equalizers, pulse shaping, continuous variable gain and Attenuation stage, automatic gain control (AGC) and voltage adjustable filter. These applications are commonly used in professional video, test and measurement, military, communications, and medical markets.

VCA820, VCA821, VCA822, and VCA824 provide industry-leading bandwidth, noise and slew rate, while cooperating with flexible analog input voltage. These features not only enable customers to process large amounts of data at a faster rate, but also minimize harmonic distortion to improve signal fidelity. VCA821 and VCA824 provide 420MHz bandwidth and gain up to 10V/V, which is more than three times larger than similar devices. They also provide the fastest slew rate of 2500V/μs, which is 40% faster than similar products currently on the market. At the same time, VCA820 and VCA822 also provide a very competitive 150MHz bandwidth and 1700V/μs slew rate.

The VCA82x voltage-controlled amplifier enables customers to use external resistors to set the maximum gain in the range of 0dB (1V/V) to 40dB (100V/V). By dynamically adjusting the externally provided gain voltage, designers can implement a gain adjustment range of more than 40dB, and at the same time, they can also choose between dB/V or V/V linear gain.

All VCA82x products are available in small, space-saving packages, and are pin-compatible, enabling easy upgrades to higher bandwidths. Designers can also switch between dB/V and V/V linear gain control options to further increase device flexibility.
